About this Project
The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa embarked on an ambitious project to construct the Presidential Village Student Activity Center, aiming to create a vibrant and contemporary facility. The $32 million, 85,000-square-foot center, located at the campus’s Presidential Village, was designed to provide an exceptional space for student engagement and personal growth.
Its architecture showcases a remarkable blend of elegance and innovation, featuring an imposing yet subtly curved entrance, sleek modern accents, and a magnificent metal-framed skylight supplied by Crystal Structures, which serves as the true centerpiece of the dynamic space.
The original design concept included an impressive 39-foot-tall rock wall extending beyond the rooftop, a striking architectural feature that required careful consideration. To enhance the visual impact of the rock wall and ensure an abundance of natural light throughout the room, a colossal metal-framed skylight, measuring almost 36 feet in width and 94 feet in length, was meticulously engineered for the rooftop. The result is an efficient and awe-inspiring daylighting effect that creates a dramatic ambiance, further elevating the overall experience within the facility.
