Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport Hangar

Innovative design eliminates the need for a vertical intermediate frame system

About this Project

Crystal Structures, a leading manufacturer of polycarbonate building solutions, completed an impressive project at the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport, located nine miles northwest of Monroe, North Carolina. The project involved the manufacturing and installation of large hangar doors for a new hangar built by Cirrus Aircraft, a company that required a location for sales, service, training, and maintenance.

The hangar doors were constructed using Crystal Structures’ SkyView 40 multi-wall polycarbonate system, which features a 40mm interlocking tongue and groove wall panel. This innovative design eliminates the need for a vertical intermediate frame system, as the panels are clipped from behind the structural members. The result is a clean, attractive, and lightweight solution that is perfect for large hangar doors.

The SkyView 40 system used for the Charlotte-Monroe hangar doors was chosen in a “clear” application, which allows the special theatrical lighting inside the hangar to illuminate the building from the inside out, creating a stunning visual effect. The polycarbonate panels not only provide excellent light transmission but also offer superior strength and durability, ensuring the hangar doors can withstand the demands of a busy airport environment.
