About this Project
The FAST (Fayetteville Area System of Transit) Multimodal Transit Center opened to serve as a modern transportation hub for the city. A key feature of the transit center is its expansive canopies that provide protection and shade for passengers. Crystal Structures leveraged its expertise in structural engineering and fabrication to design and construct these impressive canopy structures.
The striking canopies contribute to both the aesthetics and functionality of the Multimodal Transit Center. In total, Crystal Structures produced four aluminum and polycarbonate canopy structures to cover the passenger loading areas. The canopies range in size – the largest spans an impressive 229 feet across. Despite the long spans, the lightweight tensile material contributes to an airy, modern aesthetic.
Providing shelter from the hot North Carolina sun and frequent rainstorms was a priority for the project. Crystal Structures engineered the long-spanning structures to withstand wind loads and rain accumulation.
The FAST Multimodal Transit Center Canopies demonstrate Crystal Structures’ ability to deliver functional but attractive structures. The project’s success will lead to further opportunities to contribute groundbreaking architectural structures in North Carolina and beyond.
