About this Project
The Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Religious Center in Robbinsville, NJ is a stunning example of traditional Hindu temple architecture, enhanced by the dramatic use of natural light through strategically placed skylights. Crystal Structures, a leading manufacturer of skylights, has been privileged to work on six BAPS temples, including the one in Robbinsville, providing innovative daylighting solutions that illuminate the intricate craftsmanship of these sacred spaces.
In the Robbinsville mandir, the skylights play a crucial role in highlighting the beauty of the hand-carved Italian and Rajasthan marble. At the front of the great temple, a 20′ x 48′ skylight allows daylight to cascade down, while along the side, a 19′ x 71′ skylight provides a soft, natural glow.

The interplay of light and shadow accentuates the gold adornments and the exquisite details of the 98 hand-carved pillars, 91 elephants, and 236 peacocks that adorn the temple.
The skylights serve not only to showcase the craftsmanship but also to create a serene and uplifting atmosphere for worshippers. The light streaming through the skylights into the sanctum sanctorum, the most sacred space in the temple, adds to the spiritual ambiance and sense of connection with the divine.
Beyond the main temple, Crystal Structures has also incorporated skylights in other areas of the religious center. In the visitors center, an 18′ x 18′ pyramid-shaped skylight welcomes visitors, while a 32′ x 32′ skylight illuminates the food court, where visitors can enjoy traditional Indian cuisine bathed in natural light.
